How do you create a digital signature?

Within the digital signature, a few things are registered automatically:

  1. The identity of the signatory
  2. The time at which the document was signed
  3. The content of the document. This content can’t be changed after signing

There’s a lot more involved in a digital signature than in a signature on paper. However, for the signatory the process is almost identical.

The above information confirms that the document was signed in a legally valid manner and that the document has remained unchanged. This makes the digital signature legally equivalent to a signature with a pen on paper.

How do I sign?

After reading the document, you’ll have a choice of 3 options:

  1. Back
  2. Don’t Agree
  3. Next

If you choose Back , you close the document and leave the environment. The document can be reopened via the sent link.

If you opt for Don’t Agree , you refuse the relevant document and you must enter a reason for your refusal so that the provider of the document is aware of the reason for refusal.

If you choose Next , you’ll be redirected to the next page, where the signing process will take place.

Verification methods

The signature can be supplemented in various ways to add further evidential value to the signing process.

The placement of a scribble using a mouse or touchscreen
A verification with SMS, iDEAL, iDIN, DigiD and/or eHerkenning
The use of a government approved identity (PKI certificate, professional certificate)
